Dennis Basso Hosts A Cocktail For Alex Hitz’s Occasions To Celebrate

Image
More From Forbes Award-winning celebrity chef and tastemaker Alex Hitz has just released his third book, Occasions to Celebrate: Cooking and Entertaining With Style. Filled with tips on how to give elegant yet relaxed dinners, the book is a roadmap to making sure that one’s guests have the best time possible. What better way to celebrate a book about celebrations than to give a party? Dennis Basso did just that last Thursday night, to a packed house at his Madison Avenue flagship. “I love to entertain, and I love beautiful things,” said Basso. “My husband Michael and I prefer to cook at home, and we prefer not to use caterers. The recipes in Alex’s book are wonderful, we love him, and he is an amazing host. I wanted to give this party for him because I feel connected to his book – the book is gorgeous.” Friends came from far and wide to join in the fun and buy a book, but if they arrived on the late side, they were out of luck: copies that night sold out. XO Bulks Up Winter New York-South Florida Private Jet Shuttle Flights

Image
More From Forbes Vista Global's XO is expanding its shuttle flights between New York and South Florida this winter. However, it will have company. Blade and JSX also offer individual seats on scheduled flights they operate between private jet terminals. There's also a new entrant: The Fleet Club plans to use a model like several members-only services connecting the West Coast and Hawaii. While the types of aircraft vary, the shared flights all use private terminals , enabling passengers to skip congested airline terminals, including snaking lines to check baggage or pass-through TSA security. XO will operate up to five shuttle flights per day in each direction linking Westchester County Airport north of New York City and Teterboro Airport, the primary private jet airport for Manhattan, with Palm Beach International, Fort Lauderdale International and Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. The winter schedule calls for 30 flights per week. Teterboro (1st), Palm Beach (2nd),

One Airline's In-Flight Dessert Options Just Got A Lot More Exciting

Image
More From Forbes Years ago, I was on an international flight to a pretty exciting destination known for its food. When it was time for the meal service, the flight attendant came around and asked everyone if they wanted beef, chicken, or pasta. Ever the food writer, I immediately asked about what of those meal options would be the best one. She responded: “Honey, this is airline food.” Honesty on her part, for sure, but in my experience of years of travel (and eating), sometimes food on an airline can be surprisingly good, and pretty exciting too. You just need to know where to look for it. United, for example (which was not the airline where said dinner conversation occurred), has recently been upping their food program, and this week announced they would be offering complimentary Milk Bar desserts in United Economy and United Premium Plus on select flights. These desserts will be available on long-haul international flights (except those going to India) that are departi

10 Best Bucket List Trips For Your Post-Pandemic Travels

Image
More From Forbes We all know that leisure travel is coming back in a huge way, with jammed airports, limited availability in hot destinations, and record bookings for many travel companies. But there’s more to the life-after-COVID travel phenomena than just pent-up demand. The nature of the way people will vacation has changed. The shutdown caused by the global pandemic was unprecedented and like nothing in our lifetime, but also served as a warning that you never know what’s coming next, from other diseases to natural disasters to the quickly worsening effects of climate change to war. The sense that “life is too short” and a new fatalism is one side effect of the pandemic. That in turn has led people to stop putting things off for the future, especially an uncertain future. For many people, life’s big trips have always been scheduled for “someday,” and increasingly, someday is now. People are putting a priority on once-in-a-lifetime exp

Hotel Prices Will Jump By 30% In This City Next Year, Study Predicts

Image
A new report from American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) predicts that hotel rates will rise across the board in 2023. That should surprise nobody, given high inflation rates around the world and the continued pent-up demand for travel in this third year of the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet the rate of hotel price increases will differ dramatically from destination to destination, say the report’s authors. Hotel rates — like airfare and pretty much everything else — are largely based on supply and demand. Due in part to the ongoing skills and labor shortage, room supply is not keeping up with pent-up demand. Here are the cities where hotel rates will jump the most next year. Buenos Aires: Hotel Prices to Rise by 30% The report’s standout destination — and not in a good way — is Buenos Aires, where hotel rates will jump by a whopping 30%, according to the Amex report. Think inflation is bad in the United States? “Analysts polled in August 2022 by the Central Bank of Ar

The Oldest Whisky From The World’s Oldest Scotch Distillery Is Now Available For Sale

Image
More From Forbes What a monumental year it’s been for The Glenturret . Scotland’s oldest working distillery was officially established all the way back in 1763. But in 2022 it’s proving itself to be as relevant as ever. Back in February the Perthshire-based producer became the world’s first Michelin Star whisky distillery . This week it announces the release of its oldest single malt to date—a stunning 50-year-old expression packaged in a specially-designed Lalique crystal decanter. Only 150 bottles of the sherry cask-matured liquid will be available in total. Each one is set to retail at £40,000 ($47,000). If that’s not exclusive enough for you, Sotheby’s has an even rarer rendering to consider. The legendary auction house has partnered with The Glenturret to place bottle number one under the hammer. That online auction is now live and will remain open until September 9th at 4 p.m. GMT. The high-end estimate for the sale is just over $

Rising Hotel Trends In A Post-Covid World: The Absolute Importance Of Audio

Image
More From Forbes ‘It’s a bit complicated. First you have to use this remote control to connect to the tv, then this one...’ As his voice trailed off, both us knew my jetlagged self knew I was going to spend my first night in the hotel with just the hum of air-conditioning as background audio. “Our IT department chose it,” said the man apologetically, offering to come back when I’d had some sleep. I’ve also stayed in numerous rooms where a $100,000 plus room refit has been partnered with a cheap clock radio. What we expect from our homes and the hotels we stay in is an ever evolving relationship between familiarity and the excitement of new experiences. Increasingly though, when we’re away, we want a sound system to be as good - and as easy to connect to - as our home audio systems. Still lined with guitar shops, London’s Denmark Street has more than half a century of rock’n’roll history. Chateau Denmark - which opene

Steven Lagos And His Namesake Jewelry Brand Are Getting Stronger After 45 Years

Image
More From Forbes In 1977, Steven Lagos opened a jewelry repair business in Philadelphia’s jeweler’s Row neighborhood. Not long after he created the Lagos, making him a pioneer as a branded jewelry designer. Forty-five years and 15,000 original designs later he and his brand are bigger than ever. In fact, 2021 has been one of the best years for the company, selling nearly 250,000 pieces. He says he expects to exceed that number in 2022. Steven has been able to grow the brand in recent years by becoming more business savvy and adjusting to changes in consumer behavior. However, most importantly, he stuck with Caviar, the beaded design that is the foundation of every product the company produces. An example of how he continues to meet constantly changing consumer demand, in 2018 Lagos launched a jewelry bracelet for the Apple Watch called Smart Caviar. Four years later this single product is now available in 20 styles and has

Here’s How To Laugh Like A Native In Foreign Languages

Image
More From Forbes It’s a universal truth that laughter is contagious. There are few things funnier than watching someone go to pieces in a fit of hysterical laughing, utterly helpless in the face of the primal reaction that has taken over their body whether they like it or not. Laughter is also a great connector that surpasses language – it can be shared between people who have no other way to communicate with each other, which makes it an indispensable aid when in a foreign country. The humorist Paul B Lowney once said “Laughter has no foreign accent”. While the sentiment behind this poetic statement is undeniable, in the modern world where visual communication through social networks and media is as commonplace as a face to face conversation, how we express laughter has taken on a whole new meaning – accent and all. The actual sound of laughter doesn’t really change hugely from country to country, language to language – but how that sound is written does. This led t
